Create a custom exercise

Choose a name, image and tracking format, and decide whether to share an existing exercise’s history.

Search before creating one

When adding an exercise to a workout, search the library first. A movement may be listed under a different name. If you need a separate entry, use Create exercise from the exercise picker.

Choose a name that will still make sense in your history. “Seated row — cable” is easier to recognise than “Back exercise 2”. If two machines feel substantially different, include the machine or gym in your own naming convention.

Choose how it is logged

Set the equipment, primary muscle and any other muscles that apply. Open Tracking format and choose the fields the exercise needs. The app shows an example for each format.

A timed hold needs a different format from a weighted set of repetitions. Check this before adding the exercise to a routine so that the workout displays the fields you expect.

For bodyweight formats, review the Include full bodyweight in volume setting. It affects the volume calculation. Full bodyweight is not appropriate for every movement, and assistance must be entered using the selected format’s convention.

Add an image and instructions

You can add a photo or choose Use an exercise image. Borrowing a library image changes the illustration only; it does not merge exercise histories.

Add any instructions or setup notes you want to keep. An optional YouTube tutorial link opens the original video. Use a link to a video that actually demonstrates the movement you named.

Share history with an exercise has a different purpose from choosing an image. Linking connects the records to the selected exercise and uses its exercise details.

Use this for another name for the same movement when you want the history together. Keep a genuinely different movement separate. For example, reusing a row illustration does not mean a cable row and a chest-supported dumbbell row should share personal bests.

Save the exercise, add it to your workout and check that the expected fields appear. If the app warns about a duplicate name, review the existing entry before creating another.
