Use the plate calculator

Check the plates needed on each side of a barbell without leaving your workout.

Open it from a barbell exercise

During a workout, tap the weight heading above the sets. For a catalogue exercise marked as using a barbell, the explanation includes Plate calculator.

The calculator starts from a working-set load. Check this value rather than assuming it is the weight you want for every set.

Enter the total and the bar

Total weight includes the bar. Bar weight is the weight of the bar itself. For example, a 60 kg total with a 20 kg bar leaves 40 kg to distribute equally: 20 kg on each side.

Do not assume every bar weighs 20 kg. Check the equipment you are using.

Read “Each side”

The result lists the plates for one side of the bar. Use the same arrangement on the other side. If your selected total cannot be made with the available plate increments, the calculator tells you.

Where no personal plate inventory is set, the calculator uses standard plate sizes. Check that the suggested plates are available at your gym before loading.

Close the calculator to return to logging. The calculation is a loading aid; your recorded set should still reflect the weight you actually used.
